Beyond the Classroom
Early clubs drew upon student interest in astronomy, physics, and nature. As Florida State University has grown, nationally accredited chapters of honor societies have formed, from the meteorological honor society Chi Epsilon Pi, established in 1966, to Tri-Beta, the biological honor society founded in 2002. To better serve underrepresented figures in science, the Women in Math, Science & Engineering Living-Learning Community and Society supports the growth of female freshmen interested in STEM fields. This practice continues with Graduate Women in Science, an organization designed to encourage current students while providing outreach for younger females. For almost every discipline there is a community fostering the development of FSU’s science students.
